Hours Before Landfall

We are just hours from Hurricane Isaias on the Gulf Coast and even then, there’s always something to be thankful for.

It’s times like these we have an opportunity to pause and give thanks for the men and women that serve as first responders such as our law-enforcement paramedics, hospital staff. And we can’t forget those who provide the utilities we often take for granted. The water, gas, electricity that bring comfort to our homes. The linemen and utility crews who leave the comfort of their homes into dangerous environments to help restore ours.

Ultimately Hurricanes can remind us to acknowledge the One we sometimes overlook, the One who gives us the very breath that we’re breathing now. God Himself.

When the environment around us is uncertain and beyond our control, we can remember our peace should never rest in circumstances but in the One who holds us through them. But not everyone understands this peace and that gives us an opportunity to practice hospitality.

For some this may be their first hurricane while others had past experiences that bring memories of fear, loss and uncertainty. I’m learning just because something doesn’t frighten us doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have compassion and dismiss the fear of others. Instead, we can offer reassurance, extend patience and check on one another. Sometimes just being present with them through it is what is needed.

As we are still and allow this storm to pass through, I pray for all in the path and for those who will come in the aftermath to help clean up. May we not miss the opportunities God gives us even in the hurricanes, to love our neighbors, serve one another, practice gratitude and place our trust in God. Hurricanes remind us we have no control, but they also reveal where our hope is found.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

My name is arcelia. I love, worship and revere God. Since 2009 I have been enJOYing the peace with God I have through Jesus Christ. I'm learning to listen and respond to His voice through His Word and convictions of the Holy Spirit in this midst of this chaotic and distracting world. I am a broken redeemed healed vessel, joyously drawing water from the Spring of salvation pouring out in God's strength by His Spirit for His glory. "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." 2 Corinthians 13:14 View all posts by altarofheaven
